Freezing isn’t just an inconvenience — it’s one of the most expensive failures in cold-weather operations. A frozen pipe can burst and flood a facility. A frozen line can shut down a whole process. Product that freezes or thickens can be ruined outright or simply refuse to flow when you need it.
The common thread is downtime. Every one of these failures stops work, and stopped work on a job site or in a plant costs far more than the heat that would have prevented it.
Freeze protection generally targets three things:
Freeze protection is usually about continuous, low-level heat — just enough to hold everything above freezing all season, applied steadily and left alone. That’s different from process heating, where you’re actively bringing product up to a working temperature.
Heat trace and insulated wraps conform to pipes and valves and hold a safe temperature without constant attention. For containers and cylinders, wrap-around heaters do the same job.
The best time to solve a freeze problem is before it happens. Walk your site and inventory what’s exposed: which lines, which containers, which cylinders sit where the cold can reach them. Then protect them before the temperature drops, not after the first burst pipe.
