What Cooling Does in the Process
Lowering a gas stream’s temperature forces heavier components and water to condense out — that is the basis of dew-point control and hydrocarbon dew-pointing. Chillers also keep compressor and engine lube oil in range, cool glycol and amine loops, and condition gas samples down to a stable temperature so analyzers read correctly.

Reliability and Location Drive the Spec
Much of this equipment runs in remote facilities or continuously on a process that cannot stop. That pushes selection toward rugged, low-maintenance units, often with redundancy. Outdoor and remote sites also lean toward air-cooled designs where water is scarce.
Area classification matters. Where a flammable atmosphere may be present, cooling equipment in the classified area must meet the site’s electrical-area rating. Confirm the area classification before specifying — it shapes the whole package.
